How we work
The Vegan Society is a charity and a limited company. Its members elect Trustees from the members to govern the Society. Trustees are ultimately responsible for the charity and they are also directors of the Society. There are up to twelve Trustees and they are collectively known as the Council. Become a Trustee.
The Trustees are unpaid and do not work in the office. They meet approximately ten times a year and their role is to focus on strategic direction, key policies and financial management. Members may submit motions to the AGM relating to policies. The Society’s Articles of Association specify the objectives of the charity and it is the Trustees' responsibility to ensure that they are adhered to.
There are ten full-time paid staff at the office and they are managed by the Chief Executive. The Chief Executive is responsible for day-to-day operations and works closely with Council to ensure effective exchange of information between staff and Council.
The Society is funded by membership fees, legacies, sale of merchandise, sale of advertising space and income from the trademark registration scheme.
