Water, fruit juice, tea, coffee, soft drinks... most drinks are suitable for vegans.

There are, however some things to watch out for:

  • Soft drinks or diluting juices may contain animal-derived colourants, such as cochineal
  • Some orange coloured drinks may contain beta-carotene held in a gelatine suspension

Look out for the Vegan Society's logo on animal-free drinks, and check for your favourite brands in drink section of the Animal Free Shopper

Alcohol is a bigger headache. Although most spirits are vegan, animal products are often used in the production of beers and wines, and there is no legal requirement for this to be stated on the packaging. But don't worry, there are plenty of animal-free varieties available, and again some of these carry the Vegan logo and others are listed in the Animal Free Shopper
