The following organisations hold vegan and spiritual views as listed within the individual organisation. ANGLICAN SOCIETY FOR THE WELFARE OF ANIMALSProp Rev K.V. Hewitt (Founded 1972). THE CATHOLIC STUDY CIRCLE OF ANIMAL WELFAREProduce a regular booklet called 'the Ark' covering all aspects of animal abuse and the religious reflections on it pertaining to Catholics. Members can join and contribute to the booklet. President of the Society is Rt. Rev Malcolm McMahon Bishop of Nottingham. CHRIST LOVES CREATURES, TOOOrganisation trying to promote compassion towards the whole of God's creation through Bible studies, lectures and Animal Rights advocacy. www.all-creatures.org/clct CHRISTIAN ANIMAL RIGHTS EFFORTCARE was founded by Rev. M W Shaw and it is a Canadian group with a very informative website outlining the history of compassion to animals in the Bible. Website www.all-creatures.org/care.html CHRISTIAN ECOLOGY LINKThis Christian group questions the ethics of eating meat and abhors all exploitation of animals. It encourages constructive thought and discussions on these issues and also highlights environmental concerns. Website www.christianecology.org.uk THE FELLOWSHIP OF LIFEChristian organisation focusing on the Bible, Christians and vegetarians. Produce regular newsletters and leaflets for a small donation. HUMANE RELIGIONProduce a bi-monthly magazine on cruelty-free living and the Bible. Based in America but has a very interesting website covering all aspects of animal cruelty and Christians, including animal rights. THE MARY T AND FRANK L HOFFMAN FAMILY FOUNDATIONFounded by two vegans dedicated to spreading the word of God through a cruelty-free lifestyle. They sponsor a comprehensive website www.all-creatures.org which covers everything from animal rights to vegan recipes. This charitable organisation is seeking to reintroduce unconditional love and compassion to both humans and creatures according to Judeo Christian ethics. JEWISH VEGETARIAN AND ECOLOGICAL SOCIETY JEWS FOR ANIMAL RIGHTS MERCY INTERNATIONALReligious organisation that lists among its aims "to help disciples of Christ to be more caring to all of God's creation." They are particularly seeking compassionate vegans who believe in God. Their contact for England is: THE METHODIST ANIMAL WELFARE GROUPHave a web page for information and a form to fill in for joining. They send out leaflets and newsletters. Website www.christianecology.org.uk/mawg.htm MUSLIM VEGETARIAN SOCIETYThis society exists for the growing numbers of vegetarian and vegan Muslims. They publish regular newsletters and often take part in rallies and marches. QUAKER CONCERN FOR ANIMALSPromotes compassion and love to all creatures by means of newsletters and annual meetings. THE REV ANDREW LINZEYA Church of England theologian. Regularly preaches compassion to all creatures and speaks out against cruelty. His books include: Animal Gospel, Animal Rites, Animal Theology, Christianity and the Rights of Animals, Animals and Christianity, Animals on the Agenda and Love the Animals (co-authored with Tom Regan) In September 1988 at a theological consultation sponsored by the world council of Churches, a report was passed and recommendations were adopted to deal with the failures of Christian churches to teach respect for animals. This report, although falling very short of what vegans would consider acceptable, is nevertheless a real shift in Christian attitude. |
