Christians Debate Diet

Vegan Society CEO Nigel Winter will debate the environmental impact of the livestock industry in London next week. "Eating the Planet: Are Your Meals Costing the Earth?" is on Wed 30 April 2008 at 7.30pm at St Mary-the-Virgin Church, Primrose Hill, London. This is part of their "Creation in Crisis" series of events.

Vegan Vitamin K for Newborns

Newborn babies are routinely injected with vitamin K at birth to protect against rare but serious haemorrhage (including brain haemorrhage).

In the past, the injection was vegan but it now includes a carrier made from cow bile, making it unsuitable for vegans.

There is, however, at least one oral version available on a named patient basis. This means that it must be prescribed and ordered through a doctor.

'Belching Brenda' the pantomime cow celebrated World Vegan Day today by the Birmingham Bullring. Brenda told shoppers of the huge damage that animal farming does to our planet. Her Vegan Society friends handed out hundreds of leaflets and vegan 'green footprint' biscuits to an appreciative audience.

Brenda wore huge red clown shoes, sadly showing off her huge eco-footprint. Her message: "Cows want to save the planet! Please don’t breed us for meat and milk."

It's currently a boom-time for vegan food in Japan. But the term 'vegan' is not widely known - pure plant-based food is being marketed without ethics, as 'just another healthy eating option' - "Zen fare for the Hello Kitty generation".
