Good news chocolate lovers – Just Love Food Company have just launched their very own vegan caterpillar cake called Archie.

Fresh off the back of the caterpillar cake drama that’s dominated the news headlines this month, Just Love Food Company announced the news with a post on Instagram declaring Archie would be registered with The Vegan Society’s Vegan Trademark. Archie is also egg, peanut, nut and milk-free.

In case you missed it, last week supermarket giant Marks&Spencers confirmed it was suing Aldi after it accused the budget-supermarket of copying its Colin the Caterpillar cake with its own version, called Cuthbert. M&S claims Cuthbert the Caterpillar cake infringes its trademark and "rides on the coat-tails" of its reputation.

Bucking the trend of giving the cake a name beginning with C, Just Love Food, founded by a father-of-three whose children suffered with allergies, revealed the cake has been named Archie in honour of Archie’s Allergies, the charity fighting to keep children with allergies safe.

Reacting to the news, Ericka Durgahee, Marketing Manager at The Vegan Society, said: “This announcement couldn’t have come at a better time – the world has been missing a vegan chocolate caterpillar cake and we can’t wait to get our hands on one.”

“Just Love Food Company already has a number of celebratory cakes registered with the Vegan Trademark as it knows first-hand how important it is to have clear labels that show customers whether a product is suitable for their particular dietary or lifestyle requirements. We’re thrilled to welcome Archie on board.”

Danika Woods from Just Love Food Company added: “Meet Archie, the bravest caterpillar in town! We are so excited by the launch, and as a company built on inclusivity and allergy management, it’s great to be able to offer a much-loved vegan version of this classic that also guarantees to be egg, milk, nut and peanut free.”

Just Love has added Archie to a long list of products it has registered with the highly-sought after and trusted Vegan Trademark sunflower label, including its Vanilla Traybake, Chocolate Cake And Chocolate Orange Festive Bake.

On finding out the name of the new insect-themed cake, Archie’s Allergies founder Charlotte Murphy said: “It is such an honour to have a cake named after Archie and to recognise the Archie’s Allergies charity this way. Archie can’t wait to share and enjoy his very own caterpillar cake without worrying about his allergies.”

As a chocolate caterpillar cake, Archie will be in good company alongside M&S’s Colin, Aldi’s Cuthbert, ASDA’s Clyde, Calli the Caterpillar from Tesco, Cecil from Waitrose and Co-op’s Charlie. However, he’s the only vegan-friendly offering available to date.

Archie will be available online from TheVeganKind from 12 May.
