A special episode of the Vegan Pod, to be published on World Mental Health Day, focuses on mental health triggers and coping techniques for vegans in a non-vegan world
It’s World Mental Health Day on 10 October and The Vegan Society is marking the day with a special edition of the Vegan Pod.
Podcast host, Damian Watson, will be joined by vegan psychologist and author of Vystopia – The Anguish of Being Vegan in a Non-Vegan World, Clare Mann, and Animal Justice Project Campaigns Director, Ayrton Cooper, to discuss veganism and mental health.
“For vegans, as with any minority group, it can sometimes feel like the world is against us,” says Damian.
“We constantly find ourselves having to justify our beliefs and that can make some people feel isolated and overwhelmed.”
For others, it’s more than that: there can be more direct, more specific, triggers for poor mental health.
This special edition of the Vegan Pod will examine those triggers and also some coping strategies.
“Activists such as Ayrton Cooper often see scenes of horrendous animal cruelty as part of their day-to-day work,” Damian adds. “How can they look after their own mental health as they try to look after the welfare of those who can’t look after themselves?
“I’m delighted to have both Ayrton and Clare on the Vegan Pod. Ayrton and his colleagues do incredible work and Clare’s experience and expertise has helped so many vegans cope with what she calls ‘the burden of knowing’.”
To whatever degree you bear that burden, listen to the Vegan Pod – A Vegan State of Mind, published at 9am UK time on World Mental Health Day.
The Vegan Pod is available on Apple, Spotify, Google, Podbean and on the Vegan Pod webpage.
