Embedding veganism in national policy
Being vegan is a human right, protected under the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the European Convention of Human Rights. Veganism is considered a belief and is protected under the UK Equality Act.
As a delegate of National Voices - a coalition of health and social care charities representing a diverse range of health conditions in England - our Advocacy Officer Amanda Baker has represented vegans at The Equality Forum of Public Health England. National Voices is bringing the voices of patients, service users and carers to bear on health and social care policy in England.
We made sure that the consideration of philosophical beliefs such as veganism is emphasised in the National Voices Principles of Care and Support Planning work-in-progress document, of particular interest to anyone with a long-term health condition (excerpt below).
