Veganism is a human right.
The Human Rights Act protects veganism as a belief. The Vegan Society is here to help you exercise your right to live a compassionate lifestyle.
How we help
Speaking up on your behalf
The Vegan Society is here to help turn your rights as a vegan into vegan-friendly practices.
Our Campaigns & Policy team work to improve the lives of vegans everywhere. A large aspect of this work involves encouraging catering teams across our public services to provide nutritious vegan meals that are suitable for everyone, making life easier for vegans at school, in prison, in hospital and vegans in the workplace, via our Catering for Everyone campaign.
We also liaise with policy-makers in the health, education, and justice systems, to speak up for those who are unheard.
Find your own voice
There’s also much you can do to advocate for yourself, and The Vegan Society provides extensive resources to give you the confidence to speak up. If you know you’re going to hospital, starting a new job, or changing schools; find an appropriate time to tell your doctor, employer, or teacher that you’re vegan. Remind them that offering good plant-based services can help them meet their duties under human rights legislation, professional standards, environmental sustainability best practice, and good customer service. You can find template letters in our Catering for Everyone section.
Do you need our help?
If you find yourself in a difficult situation that you can't resolve on your own, we are here to help you argue your case. We have experience in dealing with professionals in hospitals, care homes, schools, and prisons, and can offer guidance on what kinds of services are suitable for vegans.
