» The vegan eggs you need in your basket this Easter!

Being vegan doesn’t have to mean you miss out on a themed treat. For many long-time vegans, Easter may have been a less enjoyable holiday for you when vegan options weren’t as readily available. But thanks to the growing demand for animal-free alternatives and the work of the Vegan Trademark team here at The Vegan Society, we’re spoilt for choice now. And if you ask us, these are the tough decisions in life that we are happy to grapple with.

We’ve put together a round-up of our favourite vegan Easter treats on the shelves right now. Brace yourselves – it’s a pretty eggsplosive shortlist! They’re all registered with our Vegan Trademark so there are no actual eggs (or any animal ingredients) in these Easter eggs, and they are, as always, free from animal testing (at the initiative of the company or on its behalf, or by parties over whom the company has effective control).

Whether you’re vegan, gifting for a vegan loved one, or you just want the scoop on some cracking Easter eggs that are also kinder to animals and the planet, we’re pretty confident you’ll have a hard time choosing between these!

Mummy Meagz Chuckie Egg

How could we not kick things off with the Easter egg that’s been the talk of 2020 – the Mummy Meagz Chuckie Egg! The vegan answer to crème eggs, this one has proved to be quite the Instagram sensation with vegans quite possibly sharing it more than Joaquin Phoenix’s speeches. Since January 2020, one Chuckie Egg was sold every 30 seconds in Holland & Barrett with most stores selling out completely. So, if you’ve got your eye on them we’d recommend getting your hands on them sooner rather than later and locking them away until Easter (if you’re gifting them). Available at Holland & Barrett.

Doisy and Dam Almond Nutter Cup Easter Egg

We’re predicting big things for Doisy and Dam’s Almond Nutter Cup Easter Egg which comes with two packets of their much-loved Almond Nuttercups! Not only are they registered with the Vegan Trademark, but they’re made using ethically sourced, single-origin and palm oil free Columbian chocolate and Doisy & Dam are a B-Corp certified company. Kinder in so many ways! Get your Almond Nutter Cup Easter Egg at Holland & Barrett and at www.doisyanddam.com.

Divine Raspberry and Dark Chocolate Easter Egg

And the kindness continues with Divine’s Raspberry and Dark Chocolate Easter Egg. Aside from raspberry and dark chocolate being a match made in heaven, this rich and luxurious Easter egg is made with natural ingredients, Fairtrade, palm oil and plastic free, and 44% of profits go back to farmers that grow the cocoa. Available at Holland & Barrett, Ocado, Waitrose and www.divinechocolate.com.

Chocolate and Love designed this gift box to celebrate their Pomegranate 70% bar’s triple award win. The Pomegranate bar, which features in the gift box was awarded 2 stars in the Great Taste Awards, an Academy of Chocolate bronze award and Best Food Product in the Natural Health Trade Summit. For your Easter bakes and crafting

Who doesn’t love an Easter celebration table and some Easter baking? We’ve thought of everything and here are a few of our suggestions:

  • Doisy & Dam’s Good Eggs – they’re a great vegan swap for mini eggs and are covered in that classic, crunchy sugar coating. Available at Holland and Barrett, or you can order an Easter bundle from Doisy & Dam’s website.
  • Divine Chocolate also do some 70% Dark Mini Eggs individually wrapped in mint green foil. These would be great for Easter gift packages that you could drop off to loved ones. Available on their website.
  • Mummy Meagz Rocky Road bars are another great option for Easter packages or your Easter table. Available at Holland and Barrett.
  • You couldn’t do Easter without the Easter Bunny, and for that, there’s Asda’s Free From Choc Easter Bunny and for some more chocolate variety on your Easter table, there’s Asda’s Extra Special Easter Egg Selection. Both are available at Asda stores nationwide and online.
  • You didn’t think we’d leave out Easter chicks, did you? Head over to Cocoa Libre’s website for their deliciously creamy and adorable mini Rice Milk Easter Chicks!

We know things are a little uncertain right now with the COVID-19 pandemic and we understand that Easter eggs and chocolate aren’t top of the shopping list. We also know that a lot of people will be feeling unsettled and worried, and children who would usually be at school will be at home. Vegan chocolate and Easter activities are a great distraction, and a nice way to keep a little normality. Of course, please try your best to make your Easter chocolate orders online or pick them up when you head out for essential shopping trips only.

Stay safe and have a wonderful vegan Easter!
