Frequently asked questions
Yes! We would advise against applying for the Organiser role, as this requires regular communication from you. However, the Advocate role is flexible and can fit around studies, travel and other commitments.
Yes. We want the Community Network to be as inclusive and accessible as possible, and there are a variety of ways to get involved to suit different needs and circumstances. Many activities can be carried out from home, and we're happy to discuss any adjustments that would help you take part comfortably and safely.
While we cannot guarantee that venues or events organised by external providers (such as vegan fairs run by third-party event organisers) will be fully accessible, if you're happy to let us know what support you might need we will do our best to identify opportunities and activities that are accessible and a good fit for you.
If you have adequate public transport links to attend local events, that's absolutely fine. A car is not a requirement for the role as many tasks can be done from home.
Yes, we usually reimburse expenses within one week of receiving a receipt from you. The types of expenses we reimburse include travel to and from events, lunch and drinks for attending all-day events, and stallholder payments. We ask that expenses are agreed in advance with the Volunteering Coordinator.
Yes! You'll have a choice of tasks each month so you can avoid activities involving social media or certain platforms. If you're an Organiser, you could ask your Advocates to do any social media tasks instead.
Of course! We encourage active and friendly local groups that meet regularly. For insurance and safeguarding purposes, we require them to fill out the Advocate application form rather than just turn up at events without registering. This should be done before they join you at an event and just takes a few minutes of their time.
Tasks will come directly from the Volunteering Coordinator while we actively recruit for an Organiser in your area. Every month, tasks will be emailed to you that you can take part in remotely. These can range from posting on social media to emailing a local business or popping some flyers into a library. You can do any of those tasks, to suit you, in your own time.
Don't worry! Let your Organiser know so they're aware as soon as possible. Communication is key. We always have a range of tasks available, such as letter writing, putting posters on noticeboards, or posting on social media. If you have accessibility needs or preferences that mean you don't want to attend events as an Advocate, that's fine – just let us know on your application form that you're only interested in remote tasks.
