Are you motivated to create a kinder world for animals, protect our environment and help others discover how enjoyable and nourishing vegan food can be? If you are at the beginning of your vegan journey and looking for support to maintain your lifestyle, then The Vegan Society Buddy Scheme might be for you.
Why Should You Join?
The Vegan Society Buddy Scheme pairs new vegans with an experienced vegan to support them on their vegan journey. Your Buddy will provide a safe space for you to talk about your experience, share your challenges and celebrate your wins. As exciting as it is, going vegan for the first time can feel a little overwhelming and even lonely- especially for those without a supportive community. For many people, becoming vegan involves a change in their values, world view and even their relationships, as well as their diet and lifestyle. We believe that having a trusted person who shares your values will be invaluable in helping you on your journey and to sustain your choice for life.
What does being part of the scheme involve?
As a new vegan you will be meeting with your Buddy approximately once a month, either online or in person to talk about how you are finding your new vegan diet and lifestyle. They will offer a non-judgemental and supportive environment for you to share. There won’t be an expectation of meeting outside of this time, although your Buddy may be able to offer a small amount of time each month to respond to questions.
Any queries around mental health, health problems or dietetics should be sign posted to the relevant organisations and health professionals. For some new vegans the cognitive shift can be emotional, and while speaking to someone who understands this can be helpful, the Buddy Scheme is not a mental health service. The Vegan Society will be able to sign post you to useful resources and relevant organisations to support you.
What would make me a suitable candidate for this scheme?

- Willing to keep in contact with The Vegan Society to report on your experience in the scheme.
What does my availability need to be?
One hour per month for at least six months, ideally twelve months.
