Celebrating 80 years of The Vegan Society

Did you know The Vegan Society was founded in 1944 by a small group of people who wanted to take the next step on their ethical journey? Today we’re the leading source of information on all things vegan – from nutrition and lifestyle to advocacy and product labelling. 

At this free interactive exhibition, you’ll see how veganism has grown from a niche idea to a global movement with roots in Birmingham’s own history. Find out how the word ‘vegan’ was coined, what early vegans ate during wartime rationing and how the community has grown to millions worldwide. 

Families are welcome! Kids can enjoy a food facts treasure hunt and lift-the-flap panels that make learning about food fun and accessible. 

Want a glimpse into the future? Join us on Saturdays from 2pm to 4.30pm to explore a future vegan world using our virtual reality headsets (ages 13+). Friendly Vegan Society representatives will be on hand to guide the experience.
