In Loving Memory of Benjamin Zephaniah.
It feels profoundly fitting that Benjamin’s first tribute here is with The Vegan Society, a cause woven into the fabric of his being. He lived his life by a simple, powerful principle: to do the least harm and the most good. This vegan ethic was the heartbeat of his existence, guiding him from the global stage to the peace of our home.
Benjamin understood with unwavering clarity that the fight for animal liberation is inseparable from the fight for human liberation. He saw veganism not as a limitation, but as a liberating act of love and a practical path to a kinder world.
To me, he was the man who lived this truth every day. His compassion was as vast in private as it was in public. He found profound joy in the food we grew together and in the knowledge that our choices caused no suffering. He was my love, my greatest companion, and my home.
His answer to everything was 'more love.' That is his enduring legacy—a call to action that continues to grow, ensuring his presence is felt not as a loss, but as an abundance of love. His life’s work continues to inspire and his message continues to ripple outward, planting seeds of change.
It is an immense honour to share his memory here. Thank you for keeping his spirit alive. May his words and actions continue to guide us toward a world of justice, peace, and compassion.
