This is the privacy policy of The Vegan Society mobile app VNutrition. The Vegan Society is a registered charity, number 279228, and a Company Limited by Guarantee, company number 1468880 in England and Wales, both of which are data controllers of your information under the Data Protection Act 1998.

Introduction

This privacy policy demonstrates our commitment to protecting your personal information online. This statement explains the collection of data and information via the VNutrition mobile app.

What types of information do we collect when you are using VNutrition?

VNutrition collects notes and data regarding your diet. This is considered private content submitted by you, this content is stored on your device using HTML 5 local storage and as a backed up file if you select the backup to device option. The content is also stored on your Dropbox account as a file, if you give the app access to do so and select the backup to Dropbox option. We do not store this data anywhere else, we do not use this data or share it with any outside parties.

When you send feedback to The Vegan Society either by email or other communications, we may retain those communications, including your name, email address, details about your device and any additional information that you provide. This is so that we can respond to feedback or bug reports, and make improvements to the VNutrition app accordingly.

If you choose to input your email address in the set up section of the app, that email address is sent to The Vegan Society servers (it is not stored on The Vegan Society servers) and then stored in a MailChimp mailing list. Submitting your email address is optional. If you sign up to our email newsletter via VNutrition, we will only send you the kinds of information you have requested. We won't share your name or email address with any outside parties.

What permissions does VNutrition require?

  • Internet: this permission allows the app to access the Internet.
  • Receive Boot Completed: this permission allows an app to receive the notice that is broadcast after your device has finished booting. It does not have any security implications.
  • Get Accounts: this allows access to the list of accounts in the Accounts Service. This is used by VNutrition to allow you to send bugs and feedback reports via the Gmail app or another mail app.
  • Write External Storage: this allows an app to write to external storage. This is used by VNutrition to store your data on your device as a backup file.
  • Read External Storage: this allows an app to read from external storage. This is used by VNutrition to read a backup file stored on your device.

Changes

We may make changes to this policy from time to time. If we change our privacy policy we will post the changes on this page. Please revisit the policy each time you consider giving personal information.

Your acceptance of this policy

By using our sites, you consent to the collection and use of information by The Vegan Society in accordance with our privacy policy. If you do not agree to this policy, please do not use VNutrition.

Your rights

Any personal information submitted via the VNutrition app is treated in accordance with the Data Protection Act 1998. To find out more about your entitlements under the data protection legislation, visit the website of the Information Commissioner's Office.

Access to your personal information

You have the right under the Data Protection Act 1998, to request details from us of personal information which we hold about you. You can make such a request by email or by post using the above contact information. We will take steps to confirm your identity before releasing any information to you. We have the right to charge a small fee for complying with your request. We will respond to your request within 40 days, unless there are exceptional circumstances.

Privacy policy for minors

The protection of children is very important to us. If you are under 18, please do not provide us with any personal information.

Children should always ask a parent or guardian for permission before sending personal information to anyone online.

We cannot guarantee the confidentiality of any messages transmitted between you and us via email as these are potentially accessible by the public. We will not be liable to you or anyone else for any loss in connection with any email message sent by you to us or by us to you.

When using or subscribing to our services, you may choose to provide us with information which is defined as sensitive personal information in the Data Protection Act 1998. Examples of sensitive information include details of your ethnicity or state of health. As with all of the personal information which you provide to us, we shall use and store this information carefully in accordance with this privacy policy.
