» Sondu Vegan Outreach Event

Grant Summary: This two-day event spread the word about veganism in Sondu, Kenya. On the first day there was street outreach in an 8 km march from Sondu Market to Oboch Chief Camp. A band was supplied by the Deputy County Commissioners of Nyakach Sub County in order to support the vegan outreach event. On the second day there was an event at Siany Primary School which included entertainment, prayer and speeches from government officials and deputy county commissioners. There were talks on the benefits of a vegan diet and the importance of veganic farming for soil health. This was followed by a vegan lunch, a vote of thanks and closing prayers. As a result, 54 people signed up to attend a vegan education class to learn more about eating from the plant kingdom.

Quote from Organiser: “Many people were interested to learn more, find out about a vegan diet and try vegan food. There were many people interested in the vegan diet for health after referrals from the nearby Nyabondo hospital suggesting a plant-based diet to treat chronic diseases. Also, various institutions were involved and the whole community took time to learn about veganism, veganic farming methods and the benefits for health and environment.”
