On 3 June, we’ll be hosting a Lobby Day in Westminster, where supporters can meet their MPs and call for a food strategy that genuinely supports plant-based food and diets
With the government developing the action plan for its food strategy right now, we have a critical opportunity to push for lasting change. You can help achieve this by talking personally to your MP on our Lobby Day on Wednesday 3 June.
MPs listen to their constituents, and a personal meeting is one of the most effective ways to gain their support. We want to gather people together on 3 June to meet with their MPs in Parliament. We’ll provide all the support, guidance and training you need.
Together, we’ll be urging MPs to support the Ten Point Plan and call on the government to promote plant-based foods within its food strategy. We’ll make a compelling case for the need to shift towards plant-rich diets and away from animal agriculture in the UK.
What’s involved?
Ahead of the event, you’ll contact your MP to request a meeting in Parliament on 3 June (or in your local constituency on the most suitable date if you can’t make it to London). We’ll provide guidance on how to do that. We’ll also help you to follow up with your MP if you don’t receive a response.
On the day itself, we’ve hired a venue near Westminster all day, where you can meet our team and fellow lobbyists, get ready, have teas and coffees, and learn more about the issues and our work. People can join us there whenever works best for them.
If you’ve arranged a meeting with your MP in advance, you’ll attend this at the agreed time. If you haven’t, from 2–4pm, we’ll head to Parliament together to ‘green-card’ MPs (which means requesting a meeting in person without a prior appointment).
We’ll have staff at parliament to provide help if needed, and if anyone wants to, they can return to our hub for a final reflection session before heading home. The last step for you will be completing a short follow-up form, and thanking your MP if you’ve met with them.
You don’t need any previous experience of talking to MPs. We’ll provide resources, training and support ahead of time and on the day, so you feel confident in making your voice heard.
If you can make it to Westminster, you’ll be joining Vegan Society policy team and like-minded supporters for an exciting and positive day. If coming to London isn’t possible, you can still support this vital call by meeting your MP in your own constituency.
If you’d like to take part or have any questions, please email us at policy[at]vegansociety[dot]com. We’d love for you to join us.
In your email, please tell us:
- Your name
- Your MP’s name
- Your constituency
- Whether you plan to come to London or visit your MP in your constituency.
We’ll get back to you to let you know next steps, and give you all the support you need along the way. We look forward to hearing from you!
