Hi, I’m Amber, one of the Dietitians here at The Vegan Society.
	My Background
My journey to becoming a Dietitian began when I was just 13, sitting on the other side of a consultation room under the care of a Dietitian myself. At the time, I was navigating an eating disorder that cast a long shadow over my teenage and early adult years. Though those years were incredibly challenging, they shaped the person I am today.
That experience taught me the power of compassion and non-judgement, and how easily someone can hide behind a smile. It also sparked in me a deep desire to walk alongside others who might be fighting silent battles of their own – to be the helping hand I once needed. That calling led me to the world of dietetics, and after years of hard work (and more than a few tears!), I’m proud to have come full circle.
	My Vegan Journey
I’ve now been vegan for eight years, and it remains one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. As someone who once struggled with restriction, going vegan was extremely liberating and completely changed my relationship with food for the better. It opened my eyes (and taste buds!) to a whole new world of flavour, colour and creativity.
It all began, however, rather unexpectedly one Saturday afternoon, when I clicked on the Netflix documentary What The Health. I had never realised just how far-reaching the impact our food choices was, not only for our health, but for the planet and for the non-human animals we share it with. I was completely stunned, inspired and compelled to act. Within hours, I’d texted my dad to cancel the shopping list I’d sent earlier and replace everything with the one item my frantic Google search produced: chickpeas. Thankfully, these days my meals look much more like something a Dietitian would approve of.
	My Career as a Dietitian
After graduating with my degree in Dietetics in 2023, I began working in the NHS, specialising in nutrition support, diabetes and weight management. Alongside that, I’d been sharing plant-based recipes online for several years prior – a passion project that slowly grew into something more and I started taking on small freelance and volunteer roles within the vegan community. Then, one day, the job I’d once written in my five-year plan was advertised: Dietitian at The Vegan Society. I couldn’t apply fast enough and I don’t think I will ever not feel a surge of gratitude and excitement every morning when I get to log on and do what I love.
	Working for The Vegan Society
Discovering that there was a role that perfectly united my personal values and professional expertise felt like a dream come true. Working as a Dietitian for The Vegan Society is everything I had hoped for and so much more.
Here, I get to combine my clinical skills in nutrition and behaviour change with my passion for promoting compassionate, sustainable living. I’m endlessly inspired by, and left in awe of, my incredible team, and deeply fulfilled by the opportunity to contribute to positive, lasting and systemic change for our planet, our people, and our non-human animals.
Working for The Vegan Society doesn’t feel like work – it feels like home.
I’m so honoured to be here to support you, so please don’t hesitate to reach out!
