RAC member Dr Melanie Flynn considers crime, harm and victimisation from a vegan perspective.

I am a PhD student at the University of Manchester's Alliance Manchester Business School, where I am researching the role of veganism as a social movement in the context of ongoing and contested socio-technical change within the food system. I have an MSc in Food Policy from the Centre for Food Policy at City, University of London, as well as an MA in Political Economy, and BSc in Mathematics and Philosophy. I have also worked as a research assistant at the University of Oxford, where I researched the ever-evolving relationships between large food companies and alternative protein start-ups. My broad research interests are in the political economy of food systems, including the social, technological, cultural, political and economic factors that influence and constrain the possibility of sustainable change, with a focus on veganism and plant-based foods. Prior to starting my PhD I have worked on and off in consulting for approximately 10 years. I can be contacted via email at [email protected] or via LinkedIn.
