Jasmijn de Boo, Vegan Society CEO, on EU Cosmetics Testing Ban in Huffington Post

"After 23 years of campaigning for an end to animal testing for cosmetics, the EU ban on the use of non-human animals in cosmetics testing has now come into full force."

CEO Jasmijn gives a comprehensive, and well-researched, background to the history of the ban and explores where it's heading, with a call to the UK Government and European Parliament to enable the funding of a major transition towards humane non-animal research and testing.

Fiona Oakes wins Women's Race in North Pole Marathon

Fiona at the north pole marathonPicture the scene. It's freezing outside. You're sitting on your sofa, snuggled under your favourite blanket, with your fingers wrapped around a mug of hot tea. Would you be keen for a jog in the snow? A few hours of exercise on the ice? How about nipping up to the North Pole to run a marathon?

"An investigation into why a new, increasingly health-conscious generation is rethinking its nutritional needs and embracing a meat and dairy-free diet."

Our attendance at the Vdelicious Veggie Good Food Show (linked with the Allergy Free From Show at the Olympia in London) in June 2013 was a real success story as not only did we witness of huge surge of interest in veganism but also had the pleasure of welcoming the highest intake of new members during any one event.

The show was packed out with visitors, which gave us a fantastic opportunity to engage directly with existing members and a new audience.

At the Society we realise just how important it is to reach new audiences if we want to grow public interest in vegan lifestyles.  With this in mind, in October 2013, we had a stall at the Om Yoga Show at the Olympia in London. This gave us great exposure to a non-vegan audience that potentially shares some of our key values.

Vegan presence a message of success at NOPE 2013

The Trademark team attended the Natural and Organic Products Europe Show in Olympia on the 7th-8th April 2013 to promote Trademark holders and Veganism in a mainstream context.  Working alongside Vegan Society Trademark holders, the business development team were able to convey a strong vegan presence amongst the 8,000 attendees at the show by handing out 1,000 goody bags filled with generous samples of trademarked products.  This created quite a buzz and helped generate a huge level of interest among the attendees.

“Very professional, clear and articulate. Particularly liked the emphasis on health and prevention of diseases”

This is what one attendee of our Fringe Event,  Reforming Public Health Advice thought, and if the lively discussion that ensued was anything to go by, many at the well-attended event had similar feelings.

After attending other VegFest events in Brighton and Bristol over the last 10 years, The Vegan Society is very excited to be involved with the first ever London VegFest. Not only will there be a Vegan Society stall at the event, but we are also proud sponsors.

As London VegFest falls the month before World Vegan Month, we are promoting our Vegan Pledge Campaign to encourage visitors to sign up to take the Pledge at VegFest - we've even got some non-vegan celebrities on board.
