23 individual products carrying The Vegan Society's Vegan Trademark have taken home prizes from the 2021 Free-From Skincare Awards with Hairy Jayne and Scence awarded Overall Runners-Up.
The awards, founded in 2011, are a way to acknowledge and celebrate those brands working hard to create products that exclude harsh, irritating or non-vegan ingredients that consumers need or want to avoid. Meanwhile, the Vegan Trademark was introduced in 1990 to help businesses showcase their products free from animal products and animal testing. Today, over 53,000 products are registered globally, including beauty products, toiletries and household items.
In total, 37 products registered with the Vegan Trademark by 16 different brands were shortlisted for awards last month, but the winning items have now been revealed with two thirds of those shortlisted taking home a prize.
Salt of the Earth took home two prizes for its Unscented Natural Deodorant Balm, receiving both Silver in the Deodorants Category and Bronze under Free From Achievement. Queenie Organics' MELIA ROSE SC was also recognised in the same category and took home Silver for Problem Skin.
Category 9, Soap Bars, was one of the toughest categories, with 25 nominees in total. However, The Sustainables Botanic Bliss Organic Vegan Hand & Body Bar by Beauty Kitchen and Little Soap Company's Natural Sweet Orange won Silver.
Bowe Organics' Lip rescue balm won Gold in Lip Care while BAO Skincare's NOURISH URSELF BALM also proved triumphant, receiving Bronze for Face Care (Leave On). Other winners include Hemptouch Ltd, Moisturising Bright Essence, Little Soap Company, Unperfumed with Avocado Oil Bar and Wild Beauty by Rhug Estate, Purifying Body Wash with Bergamot and Nettle.
Several hair products were also recognised at the awards, with Hairy Jayne's Treatment Conditioner scoring Gold, HAER's SUSINUM Luxuriant Hair Oil getting Silver and The Sustainables Intense Moisture Shampoo Bar by Beauty Kitchen landing Bronze. Hairy Jayne, Rhug Estate and Beauty Kitchen also took home Bronze for Best Brand, with Hairy Jayne additionally snapping up Runner-Up for 2021 Champion.

Ericka Durgahee, Marketing Manager at The Vegan Society, said: "What an outstanding result – to have 37 nominees and 23 winners is quite the testimony to the commitment our Vegan Trademark holders make to high quality, free-from products. We couldn't be prouder of this wonderful bunch! Both the Vegan Trademark and the Free-From Skincare Awards are important as they let customers shop in confidence, knowing that what they're buying is better for their hair, skin and nails and kinder to animals and the environment."
