Operation Snack launched this week, with Vegan Trademark holder LoveSeitan teaming up with a sandwich company to provide high-protein seitan-based sandwiches to British hauliers crossing into Mainland Europe.
Recently, EU border officials have been confiscating meat-based sandwiches from British drivers because animal products are considered an import item under the new post-Brexit rules. These confiscated items are going to landfill.
The news of this waste and hauler hunger sparked a new plan for LoveSeitan, called Operation Snack. After successful trials this week, Saturday 23 January will see them handing out 500 EU-compliant (vegan!) seitan sandwiches near the Channel Tunnel in Kent. The handovers are planned to take just 5 seconds, thanks to the use of leaf grabber sticks to reach up to the drivers’ cabins.
