The Vegan Society has taken home the title of Best Online Resource from the 2021 Veggie Awards.

Now in its thirteenth year, the awards are described as the definitive guide for plant-based consumers and a chance to celebrate the best brands in the business as the variety of meat-free, cruelty-free and sustainable products on the market continues to grow.

There were 12 subcategories in the Reader Voted Category, including Best Ethical Online Resource  as well as Best Ethical Retailer, Best Vegan Food Brand and Veggie Personality of the Year. Each category includes a winner and two runners-up.

The Vegan Society was one of five organisations up for Best Ethical Online Resource and faced tough competition from Green Planet Beauty, Mindful Chef, One Green Planet and Weleda.

Reacting to the news, Francine Jordan, spokesperson for The Vegan Society, said: “We are so honoured to be crowned Best Online Resource at this year’s Veggie Awards – especially as the public votes for it and as we faced such tough competition. The society works endlessly to create interesting and exciting content for our website, whether it’s recipes, nutrition advice or inspiring stories from other vegans, to get everyone as excited about the vegan movement as we are. To walk away as winners alongside so many of our fantastic Vegan Trademark holders also makes this award extra special.”

The charity won alongside ten other brands carrying products registered with the Vegan Trademark.

LUSH, which has over 1,800 products certified by the Vegan Trademark, was one of the biggest winners of the night taking home three top prizes, including overall winner for Best Ethical Retailer, Best High Street Cruelty-Free Range and Best Vegetarian Lifestyle Brand. While The Body Shop was Highly Commended in the Cruelty-Free Range, Faith in Nature was honoured with the same accolade for Best Vegetarian Lifestyle Brand.

Alpro came Highly Commended in the Best Vegan Food Brand category, while Quorn and Taste & Glory (formerly Naked Glory) which both have several Vegan Trademark products, came Highly Commended under Best Vegetarian Food Brand.

Wagamama, who are committed to making 50% of its menu plant-based by the end of the year,  walked away with Best Meat Free Brand, while Vegan Trademark holders BOSH won Cook Book of the Year.
