Red pepper pesto pasta served on a plate

Jarred red peppers are the fastest way to add buckets of flavour to this pesto. It saves the faff involved in charring and peeling your own. If your jarred peppers come suspended in oil, use that oil instead of the olive oil in the recipe for a zero-waste hack.

The last UK Government disappointed almost everyone with a food 'strategy' that failed to deliver meaningful change.

I’m a political eco-nomist from Turkey and currently living in Switzerland. Throughout my academic career, I have focused specifically on the interactions between nature and the economy; in my master's thesis I analysed the economic effects of 'natural' disasters from an economic development perspective, and later completed my PhD thesis on the location decisions of polluting industries in developed and developing countries and relationship between international trade and environmental pollution (i.e. pollution havens).

As an activist, I’ve taken part in various social justice initiatives campaigning for labour rights, academics' unionisation, veganism and LGBTI+ rights.

Currently my research is focused on transforming the food system to end the exploitation of animals in order to reach a sustainable post-capitalist future within ecological boundaries. My research interests include international economics, political ecology, animal liberation, and degrowth policies.
